Indonesian Congregation visit

8 November 2020

A visit by Indonesian congregation with their fascinating bamboo instruments.

In November 2020 we invited the Indonesian Lutheran congregation to join us in worship at St Peters Blackwood.  We experienced some wonderful music by the Indonesian musicians, produced via a series of delicately hung bamboo pipes.  Members of our congregation were then each given a single pipe in a handheld rack and taught to play a note by shaking it.  Diffferent racks produced different notes so by following the direction of the Indonesian conductor, we were able to play a simple tune.  What fun!  The children of St Peters school also sung a song as they are learning the Indonesian language in class.  What a lovely celebration of our two cultures, coming together in worship and praise.
